The training in Ghana allows you to live a complete professional experience while participating in a particularly rich immersive mission, to eventually work in an NGO in Africa for example. The learning is indeed practical and theoretical, with online modules before the start of the project. You benefit from in-depth support, while helping the local community in learning English and through various educational workshops. Share your experiences with the locals, and discover their culture, their traditions and their way of life!
Participants train with the community from Monday to Friday, through educational workshops and courses, which they must plan and prepare in advance, to work in an NGO in Africa. Weekends are free, volunteers can take the opportunity to discover the region or simply relax at the base!
Generally, a day can include:
The missions are diverse, and decided according to the needs of the community. However, expect to attend educational workshops, professional development workshops to help them better integrate into the job market later on.
The training is focused on developing your leadership skills, which allows you to develop other so-called transversal skills, which will serve you in your professional career.
Like all of our training courses for working in humanitarian NGOs , this project in Ghana allows you to benefit from a complete learning experience, while having a positive and lasting impact on local communities.
This vocational training program is part of the so-called “career” projects. In addition to the mission that you carry out on site, it allows you to benefit from real support, and to access the position of project coordinator in 6 months. Here you combine theoretical training with practical learning, with online modules to be completed after the end of the mission. At the end of the program, you obtain an international certification recognized and issued by the University of Richmond, in the United States.
The accompaniment is therefore present upstream, on site but also downstream of the project. During the course of the mission, you will also have a remote project to carry out: you will have to solve a problem with other partner organizations in marine conservation, environment, animal protection… A coach will follow you and support you to help you better in solving these problems, and at the end of the project you will have access to a platform of job offers in NGOs, to which you will be eligible thanks to your professional training in NGOs.
Remote projects included in professional training will be carried out AFTER having carried out the mission in the field.
If your training lasts 4-11 weeks, you will work on a remote project for a period of 4 weeks after completing the field assignment.
If your training lasts 12 weeks or more, you will work on 2 remote projects for a duration of 8 weeks after completing the field mission.

The assignment depends on the skills and profile of the participants. A telephone interview and a registration file (CV and motivation letter) will determine the placement of the volunteers on educational projects ranging from childcare to the organisation of extracurricular activities and tutoring / assistance in schools for those with the most training.
RealStep GHANA was the best experience of my life. Aside from the friends you make, you live in a wonderful community and build close bonds with them. – participant

Housing is allocated by local NGOs, not by Freepackers - the descriptions are there to give you an idea of the type of accommodation, as it is very likely that conditions will vary on site depending on the number of volunteers, weather conditions, availability, etc. Each volunteer will be accommodated according to the stated conditions, but it is possible that the accommodation may not match the description or images shown on this site word for word, for example, in the case of annexed housing, renovations, relocations, etc.
Participants will live in a guesthouse that has been built specifically to accommodate volunteers, at our base in Ghana. Two minutes walk from the beach, the center has a garden full of colorful flowers and tropical plants.
Volunteers are housed in shared rooms with a shared bathroom. There is also an al fresco kitchen, office and dining/meeting area which works perfectly.
The first 3 months, meals are included and the following 3 months, they are at the expense of the participants.
The on-site team takes care of the kitchen, and in particular prepares traditional dishes from the country. For breakfast, the menu is fixed as for dinner, which is vegetarian. Expect local, simple, often spicy dishes, mostly based on rice, eggs, fresh fruit, vegetables or starchy and sour pasta, which are accompanied by rice, soup or stew.
On project days, participants have the option of packing their lunch to eat on site or returning to base to prepare their meal. For Sunday, it is up to them to take turns preparing meals for the team. The region also has various restaurants, where participants can eat at their own expense.
Communication
The internet connection is limited on the base, and is therefore reserved for the team on site at all times. To benefit from internet access, we recommend that you purchase a SIM card upon arrival.
A visa is required for any stay in Ghana. To do so, you must fill out an application form on the embassy's website.
