On this international humanitarian internship, set off to South America to help local women emancipate themselves. Argentina faces long-standing human rights issues, including endemic violence against women. The COVID-19 pandemic reinforced existing inequalities between men and women in almost all sectors. In Argentina, over 300 women died as a result of domestic violence between March 2020 and May 2021. These women are the first victims of the pandemic, being particularly affected. That’s why it’s important to speed up the process of economic emancipation, particularly for these women, and that’s what this internship in Argentina offers.
This international humanitarian internship is made up of 2 missions: one in the field with a local women’s association, helping each other through training, sports activities and workshops. Une autre mission en alternance auprès d’une ONG internationale qui lève des fonds pour soutenir des associations locales. <a href="https://www.real-step.com/en/internship/humanitarian-internship/ is an opportunity for students to learn more about the situation of women in Argentina, and the levers for improving their status.
The women in some neighborhoods live like the older generations and haven’t seen different horizons. They receive no education and suffer domestic violence. When they realize that what they are experiencing is not normal, they reject their situation and the foundation provides support to manage their demand for change. In 2018, the association won the Cordoba prize for the best international humanitarian internship.
These women are looking for skills that could help them find employment or work independently in the future. The majority of the women are between 16 and 22 years old. Whatever form your efforts take, contributing to our women’s empowerment project will be both rewarding and eye-opening. Although quite shy at first, the women you meet will eventually be warm, friendly and eager to learn.
Half the week, students on the international humanitarian internship take part in workshops (textile, recycling, clothing, knitting, crochet, porcelain, etc.) to establish a bond with the women on the project. Once integrated, they will be able to interact with them and offer help, advice or simply listen to and understand what they have to say. Volunteers will help organize events where the association will sell their products.
The other half of the week, participants work within an international NGO that supports local associations. As part of this international humanitarian internship, concrete missions could include:
-Mobilize resources from international and local donors to fund local initiatives and grassroots women’s organizations in Latin America.
-Promote and strengthen women’s leadership within their local initiatives, organize meetings to exchange experiences with other women and connect them with other sources of technical and financial resources.
-Conduct research on relevant topics related to the global development agenda (e.g. development in general and development cooperation for women in particular; draft working papers working papers, policy briefs and presentations on various topics;
-Provide support at meetings and events, including international conferences and workshops.
-Through communication strategies, manage their social media network to promote their projects and share their professional experience.
The internship runs from March to mid-December, for a minimum of 12 weeks. You will also benefit from online Spanish courses to facilitate your integration and enrich your experience in this international humanitarian internship.

Housing is allocated by local NGOs, not by Freepackers - the descriptions are there to give you an idea of the type of accommodation, as it is very likely that conditions will vary on site depending on the number of volunteers, weather conditions, availability, etc. Each volunteer will be accommodated according to the stated conditions, but it is possible that the accommodation may not match the description or images shown on this site word for word, for example, in the case of annexed housing, renovations, relocations, etc.
Our partner NGO offers two options for volunteer accommodation:
- Youth hostel in downtown Córdoba: accommodation in shared rooms (maximum 3 people per room) with access to the rooftop with barbecue and a fully equipped kitchen for volunteers to prepare their own meals. The hostel also has an internet connection and a bar.
- Host family: volunteers will be accommodated in a single room in a local home on a half-board basis. Count on an additional 50 euros per week for accommodation with a host family.
- Host family: volunteers will be accommodated in a single room with half board.
For stays of less than 3 months, visas are not required for French nationals.
