Program description

By participating in this project, you contribute to research and its diffusion through studies and scientific articles.

Learn about the composition and organization of different coastal and marine ecosystems. This will lead us to coral reefs, which you will explore from various approaches to establish and continue ongoing research. You will do the same for coastal ecosystems.

Use and handle new equipment and analytical systems.

Familiarize yourself with the different organisms that make up these ecosystems, as well as the monitoring methods, to gain concrete knowledge and skills for your future studies or professional life.

Marine biology program features

  • Coastal and marine ecosystem specific features
  • Diving and snorkeling exploration of marine areas
  • Monitoring of coral reefs, seagrass beds, and mangroves
  • Establishment and construction of natural and artificial coral structures
  • Coral restoration methods
  • Identification and monitoring of marine organisms
  • Research and monitoring of marine diseases and bio-indicators
  • Water analysis (bacteriological/toxicological) and microscopic analysis
  • Data analysis
  • 2D/3D photogrammetry
  • Report and article writing
  • Mapping and geospatial analysis
  • Marine monitoring (awareness program)
  • Use of UAV and ROV drones
  • Beach and underwater cleanup (marine debris/ghost nets)
  • Educational workshop on marine conservation
  • Leatherback turtle nesting monitoring (December–April)

Program schedule

For a typical day, hours are from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., but may be adjusted according to the type of research and weather conditions.

Program options

Individual scooter or bicycle rental for personal transportation.
Various additional activities, such as diving and hiking, are available.
