Housing is allocated by local NGOs, not by Freepackers - the descriptions are there to give you an idea of the type of accommodation, as it is very likely that conditions will vary on site depending on the number of volunteers, weather conditions, availability, etc. Each volunteer will be accommodated according to the stated conditions, but it is possible that the accommodation may not match the description or images shown on this site word for word, for example, in the case of annexed housing, renovations, relocations, etc.
The program includes 7 nights in an international youth hostel in Darwin. Regardless of the city chosen to start your Australian working holiday visa, the standards are equivalent: a bed in a shared room, in a facility close to all amenities and highly active in terms of social activities... perfect for starting your international integration!
Participants arriving in Darwin will stay at the Youth Shack, located at 69 Mitchell St, Darwin. The Youth Shack is ideal for exploring Darwin's lively neighborhood. You can easily walk to popular attractions such as the Waterfront Precinct and the Mindil Beach Sunset Markets.
You will share a dormitory room with 4 or 6 beds with other backpackers, which is an excellent way to make new friends. All shared rooms are equipped with linens, individual lamps, free Wi-Fi, lockers, and air conditioning. You will also have access to the communal kitchen and game room, as well as the barbecue, movies, and social space.
The reception is open 24/7 to assist you with any questions. So, even if your flight arrives late, you can still check-in.
In the case of many seasonal jobs like agriculture and hospitality, accommodation is often provided by the employer. In major cities, most seasonal workers stay in youth hostels before finding shared apartments. Our local teams can assist you in finding longer-term accommodation.
