How do I find a subsidized internship abroad?

Internship abroad: general information

Location: Multiple destinations

Duration: 2 to 24 weeks

Start dates: all year round

Minimum language level: B1 in English

Minimum age : 18 years old

Engineering internships, nursing internships, veterinary internships, project management internships, teaching projects, environmental research… thanks to our many NGO partners, Real Step offers internships abroad all over the world and in all sectors.

Internships with NGOs are very popular with students today, who aspire to more “hands-on” missions than an internship with a company. Joining a team of experts (guides, researchers, project coordinators) and working as part of a team brings not only solid international experience but also unique personal enrichment in the humanitarian field.

Key advantages

  • Gain international professional experience
  • Acquire research and analysis methods and in-depth knowledge
  • Working as part of a team, learning to manage a team
  • Discover another culture and another way of working
  • Contribute to a project that embodies the values of mutual aid and solidarity, with a real objective in mind

How an internship abroad works

International volunteer assignments are fully supervised by professionals, local staff and, if necessary, translators. Meals, supervision, local transport and accommodation are included for the duration of the placement.

Upstream, we take care of your application, travel arrangements (visa, insurance, etc.) and the signing of the internship agreement by the local tutor.

Once the assignment has been approved by the school and the host organization, the following documents must be provided:

– CV and cover letter in English

– Valid identification for the stay

Modular courses to suit all levels

Internships vary in length from 2 weeks to 24 weeks, and it’s entirely possible to find suitable assignments for all durations. Flexible internships allow students to manage their time around the project (free time, possibility of vacation or excursions before or after the project, etc.).

But the great advantage of internships with NGOs is that they can be tailored to suit your needs. In the case of long-term internships, the student trainee can combine several assignments in one destination (for example, in Thailand with the elephant protection internship or the coastal conservation internship) and even several other destinations if this condition is validated by his or her school/university.

Specific requests may be considered, such as the possibility of organizing preventive workshops during medical courses, or setting up specific programs (sports, art, etc.) during educational courses.

OUR PARTNER ORGANIZATIONS

Our NGO partners are members of the United Nations International Commission on Sustainable Tourism. All their initiatives and volunteer projects are led by experts in collaboration with the local population and national governments. All projects follow medium and long term objectives defined with local partners and respecting the United Nations sustainable development goals.

As a non-profit organisation, our volunteer projects are completely transparent. Volunteer contributions are used to cover project planning (reconnaissance, team recruitment and logistical support), direct field costs (transportation, lodging, staff meals) and finally to support the project itself. Without the physical and financial help of volunteers, this project would not have been possible.
