Why did you join a teaching internship abroad?

Back home, I have always worked with children through volunteering or placements. I wanted the opportunity to expand this and make a difference to children in other countries. I decided to take a gap year before university and decided to explore South East Asia.

Where did you intern?

I interned with RealStep/GVI in Chiang Mai, Thailand. I absolutely loved it! We stayed and worked in a little village called Huay Pakoot. The community there was amazing, everyone is so friendly and after only a few weeks you begin to feel like a family.

What are three things everyone should know about teaching abroad?

1. You will meet the most amazing people!
2. You will gain incredible skills such as confidence and cooperation!
3. It’s a rewarding experience like no other!

What skills did you gain through the program?

Through the program, I gained so much more confidence which I can apply to every aspect of life. I also learnt useful communication skills which I will apply to my future teaching jobs.

I improved my teamwork skills and learnt how to communicate clearly, which will be essential in university study groups and class presentations. I also gained confidence through guiding students, which will help me in any future teaching roles.

Would you recommend this teaching program to someone else?

Definitely!! I think volunteering abroad is an amazing experience! I found the program truly rewarding and it’s incredible to watch the kids learn.
