Antoine’s nursing internship, a rich experience in Sri Lanka
Posted on 2 October 2022

Antoine traveled to Sri Lanka with RealStep for a nursing internship, and reflects on his experience.

My international experience enabled me to broaden my knowledge of the world and of other people. I learned a lot on a human level by doing this nursing internship abroad. Discovering another healthcare system allows you to challenge yourself and improve your professional adaptability.

My best memories are of meeting all the locals. The exchange of culture and knowledge is really what I retain from this trip.

I was thus able to validate my internship through the validation of my 10 nursing skills. We were very well supervised by the host organization with regard to our internship report.

If you had to rate your experience (out of 5)

  • Pre-departure information: 3/5 because in my opinion the information was not explicit enough and we had to adapt, particularly to get from the airport to our accommodation and also for the accommodation where the photos did not resemble the actual accommodation.

  • Registration process: 5/5. Registration is quick and easy

  • Supervision / project coordinators: 5/5 Very good supervision by the Gray villa staff. Both for our project and for life in the country.

  • Volunteer and trainee timetable: 5/5. Because the timetable complies with French legislation and we were able to adapt our schedule from the outset.

  • Food and lodging: 5/5 for food. Very good traditional food.

  • Accommodation 4/5 for the accommodation as we were not expecting these rooms following the photos shared by RealStep.

I would 100% recommend this internship as it allows you to develop skills and a cultural approach that you can't discover just by doing this project. I also recommend RealStep for international projects. because it's a good cause, and it's practical not to have to organize our whole course and trip.
