Erasmus+ supports traineeships (work placements, internships, etc) abroad for students enrolled in higher education institutions.
Only students from universities who have applied for Erasmus funding can receive a grant for their placement abroad.
Young people can establish projects with an international component through the Youth in Action program, including group exchanges, volunteer work, democracy projects, and group initiatives.
If you're not taking part in an exchange program (e.g. Erasmus), you may be able to obtain alternative financial aid. The French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, for example, offers the “language scholarships” program, awarded to students at bac +2 level who wish to do an NGO internship abroad of between 2 weeks and 6 months.
The international mobility grant is intended for students wishing to follow a higher education course abroad as part of an exchange program, or to undertake an international internship. It is granted to students eligible for a grant for an internship abroad on welfare basis who are preparing a national diploma.
Students must submit a request for mobility assistance to their school's international relations department, together with a project for a study stay or internship abroad. The duration of the stay (internship + course or internship only) must be between 2 and 9 consecutive months. This grant cannot be accumulated over several stays.
The amount of mobility aid varies according to the length of your stay and your level. It can range from 800€ to 2400€ for a one-year study stay or internship, or from 800€ to 1200€ for a semester. Students are informed of the amount granted before their departure.
The Rotary Foundation aims to promote international understanding and friendly relations between people around the world. To this end, it offers scholarships to 1st, 2nd and 3rd cycle students. In exchange, the student acts as an ambassador for his or her country abroad.
Boren Scholarships provide up to $25,000 to U.S. undergraduate students to study abroad in areas of the world that are critical to U.S. interests

The Study in Canada section of the Canadian Embassy lists all the organizations offering scholarships to foreign students for compulsory internships as part of their higher education.
In Canada, as in the United States, certain schools are accredited to award scholarships to students accepted into their programs. For example, students enrolled in the International Tourism and Event Management Program in Toronto automatically receive a scholarship when they apply. This scholarship is worth CA $5000 and covers almost half the program fees.
There are multiple organizations and possibilities to help you finance an internship abroad via a scholarship! Many students choose to combine scholarships with fundraising, others call on individual or corporate sponsors. There are so many options, you just have to be creative!
