Marlhene – English courses in Toronto

Marlhene spent a month in Canada to take advantage of her company's English courses in Toronto. She talks about her experience, her English courses and her life.

During my gap year program, I really appreciated the overall setting of the English courses in Toronto, with their beautiful decor and study rooms, the dynamism of the courses, the textbooks used, the evaluation system, the flexibility provided in the choice of options and the many extra-curricular activities that are a real plus.

On average, there were between 10 and 16 students of different nationalities in the room. The atmosphere is very good, you integrate easily, you learn a lot about other cultures and of course you make a lot of friends.

And what struck me most was that, whether it was the staff or the teachers, they were all very attentive to the needs of each student and didn't hesitate to help you in any way they could. Everything is done to ensure that you feel as comfortable as possible and in the best possible conditions to learn English at your own pace.

As far as accommodation was concerned, I found a wonderful Canadian host family living in a superb apartment just 15 minutes door-to-door from the school (a godsend!). Throughout my stay, they were also always attentive to my needs, following my progress with interest. I learned a lot about Canadian culture, and at the same time my hosts learned a lot about French culture. And we've kept in touch ever since my return. A real friendship has taken shape.

And what about Toronto? it's the place to be => A beautiful, cosmopolitan city, where people are friendly and, above all, helpful. There's so much to discover, and you really shouldn't miss one of the games, or rather the real American-style show put on by "The Raptors" basketball team.

Finally, my English, the main reason for this experience, has improved far beyond my expectations. I started at High Intermediate (8) and ended up at High Advanced 1 (14). By working tirelessly, I was able to get A+ grades on the assessments and jump up a level. Thanks to this, I was able to enroll for 3 weeks in the business option I'd always wanted, and in which I learned a lot on a professional level.

All in all, it was a really great experience that I'm already recommending without hesitation to my friends and family, and to anyone planning an English course in Toronto.
