Aurélien – Surf training in Australia

Aurélien – Surf training in Australia
Posted on 29 November 2024

In full professional retraining, Aurélien chose surfing training in Australia to start a new career. He recounts his experience.

The surf instructor training course in Australia was a real life lesson for me. At the age of 40, I've learned as much from 20-year-olds as I have from them.

You don't go to the other side of the world for no reason, but over there, no one judges, everyone just wants a good time, and all personalities fit in. Getting up at 4am to film the sunrise and surfing at 6am until sunset is a privilege. C his interlude in my life will undoubtedly be one of the indelible memories that even Alzheimer's won't be able to take away from me!

My best memories

I have a lot of memories, as I was in Australia for almost 4 months. You usually go for a few months, you're lost at first when you arrive at the surf camp and after 2 weeks you want to stay for the rest of your life. If I had to summarize a few memories, I'd choose :

  • Sunset surf sessions with spectacular scenery and other surfers having a good time, whatever their level.
  • A dinner of wine, cheese and olives on a camping table on the Arrawarra headland. Dolphins greeting us with somersaults in the water.
  • Laughing fits at any time of the day.
  • Long philosophical discussions over Sarah's cappuccinos.

Service rating on a scale of 1 to 5

- Pre-departure information: 5/5

The Realstep team is always available, friendly, reassuring and competent!

- Registration process: 5/5

It's so easy, you just listen, follow the instructions and everything takes its course.

- Quality of your training (Surfing, Diving, Nature guide/safari or other): 4/5

There's always room for improvement, and the week is packed with pool classes, fitness, yoga, video analysis, theory classes...

- Teachers, quality of teaching: 5/5

They are all very competent and give personalized advice that makes all the difference and allows surfers to progress and pass the landings quickly.

- Homestay or residence: 3/5

Relatively expensive for a bungalow that could do with a good renovation. Nevertheless, in view of the other accommodations, being in this type of accommodation is a privilege in the camp.

My overall opinion of surf training in Australia

I recommend this project because I'll be the first to go back if the opportunity arises!

I also recommend Realstep thanks to their very competent team. They give us relevant information, and allow us to leave reassured and motivated.
